Dragon 2 - Review

Some facts to consider:

- Because of the currency exchange rate, Australia is one of the cheapest places to purchase paragliding gear. The money you save buying your equipment here could pay for your international airfare.

Why not have a free holiday in Australia and pick up your new wing while you're here?

- There are about 60 paraglider (brands) companies world wide. However, there are only about 15 manufacturing companies that assemble and do the sewing for paragliders. Every brand comes from one of these factories. Five of these factories produce the majority of paragliders sold. Most are located in Asia to save costs on labour.

-Most of the decent brands use the same quality materials.

- Paraglider canopies (wings) are grouped in categories according to their safety and skill required to pilot them. There are 2 main Certification standards, DHV from Germany and AFNOR from France.

The DHV rating system grades as such : DHV 1, DHV 1/2, DHV 2, DHV 2/3, DHV 3.
DHV 1 or DHV 1/2 is recommended for beginner pilots. Wings in these categories have the highest inherent safety and can be easily piloted by novices. Your first wing should definitely be in this category!

The higher the rating, up to DHV 3, obviously gives you more speed and performance which experienced pilots look for. Correspondingly, higher performance wings have less inherent safety and therefore require more advanced piloting skills to fly in turbulent situations.

- Because paraglider design and technology has advanced so much in the last 5 years the difference in performance of wings from the same DHV rating is virtually immeasurable. The only real difference between any of the decent brands is price and this comes down to what overheads a company has, e.g. how much they spend on marketing.

- Warranty is another factor, although today because of the quality and workmanship in most brands it is virtually unheard of to have problems. Again, most decent brands offer very similar warranties that protect you against faulty materials and workmanship.

The warranty is the same if you buy your wing at home or in Australia. In the unlikely event you have a problem, the company will pay to repair (e.g. some minor stitching comes undone) or replace your wing (e.g. faulty materials or workmanship etc.) If it has to be sent back to the company they will pay for postage.

Akron

DHV 2

Intermediate - Advanced

The Akron provides sensitive feedback that allows precise flying in thermals, making it ideal for XC flights and serial class competitions. The wing stability and handling are outstanding in the DHV 2 segment.

The Akron's intelligent design combines high performance and aspect ratio with excellent passive safety.

The Akron is a wing for pilots who find a DHV 1-2 paraglider "boring" and a high performer too "hot".

Radical

DHV 2/3

Advanced

The Radical is an innovation in "closed cell technology". 40% of the leading edge is closed resulting in a significant reduction of drag. The system closes each cell only 50% which keeps the internal pressure high and gives better stability.

The Radical was the first glider with this technology; it works so well that now most producers are using this solution. The stability during the full-accelerated flight of the Radical is a new milestone; its handling and safety are well known in the industry.

All Radical sizes are now available with competition lines and special competition risers. These improve the glide ratio at high speed.

The Radical is for the more experienced end of the serial class pilots, mainly due to the direct feedback and responsiveness. Its precise turning behaviour is a pleasure.

Price : AUD $3400

Sizes : Small, Medium, Large

"Fresh Air's" review of the Radical

Raptor

Competition

The target customers for the Raptor are competitors, XC pilots and acro pilots.

The glider is the result of our long experience in the fields of closed cell technology, high aspect ratio and the use of the FD software.

The Raptor's key characteristics are a very flat polar curve, high climb rate in thermals and excellent energy retention. On speed bar and with trims off, the top speed is very impressive.

The Raptor's flying potential has been finely tuned resulting in a glider that gives sensitive feedback and that can be piloted out of critical situations.

In order to promote the sport of paragliding and our presence at competitions, we offer the Raptor at a very discounted price.

Price : AUD $2900

Sizes : Small, Medium, Large
